Texas – Heavy Rains and Flooding

In the early hour of Monday April 18th, the Houston metro area awoke to 20 inches of rain that resulted in massive evacuations and rescues. Rainfall came down at rates as high as four inches an hour, flooding waterways at rapid rates and leaving residents trapped in their own homes and vehicles.

To date, 8 deaths have been reported, and over 1000 homes destroyed with the City of Houston continuing to report updated damage that extends across 9 counties. At the time of this article, waters are still being released from local reservoirs resulting in some additional flooding in some areas.

Disaster Aid USA’s Rotary Zone 21-b’s Chairman of the Board, Wayne Beaumier has arranged to help with the cleanup in the Greenspoint Area. Rotary district 5890 and district 5910 will be working with Disaster Aid USA to help with cleanup efforts.

Disaster Aid USA is immediately responding to the need with a $4,000 donation from its Domestic Disaster Fund to Rotary Districts 5890 and 5910, Disaster Aid USA is a 501-c3 registered Rotary club project, and is registered with Crisis Cleanup and a member of the Gulf Coast VOAD chapter. Disaster Aid USA working together with Crisis Cleanup will launch its first cleanup deployment on Tuesday, April 26th in the Greenspoint area of Houston, which was one of the hardest hit areas. Disaster Aid USA will continue with cleanup efforts in the months to come.
