Some of Disaster Aid USA Zone 21B volunteers were in the direct path of Hurricane Harvey and were out there helping with rescues while their own homes were being damaged. 1yr later they are still helping rebuild their communities. They have lived through the worst storm this country has ever seen and know all too well the devastating toll Hurricanes have and how long and how much support it takes to recover. They are now preparing to go help the residents affected by Hurricane Florence.
Disaster Aid USA and other Disaster Aid International groups such as Disaster Aid Canada are trying to raise funds to support DAUSA's work in the wake of Hurricane Florence. Disaster Aid works solely on donations and their entire staff is volunteers, they need donations to continue their work to those who need it the most. Please take a moment to give, no donation is to small and every donation is hugely appreciated.

Girl Scout Troop #109077 was selected by the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (Official) to hand out cookies for their Heros of Harvey cookie program. Troop #109077 chose Disaster Aid USA as their Heroes of Harvey organization after witnessing and even helping them work in their neighborhood during Hurricane Harvey. Many of the girls from Troop 109077 and Disaster Aid USA's delivered hundreds of Girl Scout cookies to those who volunteered with her during & after Harvey.
The volunteers who helped during Harvey worked endlessly in multiple different capacities within their neighborhoods. There were heroes who drove boats and high-water trucks to get people out of their flooding homes and to safety. Some who organized a temporary overnight shelter, so those who couldn’t get into main shelters had somewhere safe to be. Other heroes emerged as soon as they could leave their homes. Armed with their tools and a will to help others, they mucked and gutted out houses for days and then helped restore those houses for months after! There were heroes who cooked meals and others who went bought the supplies needed to keep those crews on site. And even the smallest volunteers who were not old enough to be out in the houses created "we are thinking of you" cards for those who had just lost so much and help pass out waters to those volunteers working in the heat. Girls from this troop did just that!

Hurricane Florence is slowly approaching the Carolina coast. We hope those in its path especially in flood zones are at this point now in there designated evacuated areas designated by their local officials. Storm surges & storm tides are one of if not the deadliest form of hazards caused by a hurricane.
When people ask me how big a hurricane is, or state I think I will ignore the mandatory evacuation. I usually show them pictures of the storms from Space... while beautiful pictures, once again this is from space, no material things are worth one's life. Let the storm pass, let first responders do their jobs and only when all clear return home. I have been in and responded to more disasters than I can count. Many who stay and survive a major storm will tell you never again will the push fate like that. Larry Agee Executice Director, DART Team lead and trainer, DAUSA
