Friday, May 15, 2020 — Disaster Aid USA, a Washington-metro area non-profit and Rotary Club project, has been mobilizing to provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the following communities in need along with volunteering in local communities in the entire Washington Metro Area, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Houston, TX, and West Virginia.
“This is what we were born to do. It is why DAUSA was created more than 10 years ago,” says Executive Director Larry Agee.
Since March 2020, DAUSA has provided relief aid items worldwide by tapping into factory and supply partners, including contacts in China. Disaster Aid USA is providing a desperately needed Humanitarian service of PPE such as medical face masks, KN95 masks, gloves, and gowns. Bought and shipped to communities depending on the need and of course the donations available. To date, DAUSA has secured and distributed more than 40,000 PPEs.
Additional units are in route to the United States for Disaster Aid USA’s deployment, bringing their total distribution to: 115,000+. Rotarians and other community volunteers and donors have been handling all of the distribution of the PPEs to everywhere from local recreation centers and senior centers to first responders and medical facilities in addition to other who are in high need.
Disaster Aid USA (DAUSA) is a 501-c-3 registered charity incorporated in Washington, D.C on June 12, 2010. It began with one local Rotary Club’s vision to nurture Rotary’s dream of a world absent of pain and suffering by providing humanitarian aid when domestic disasters strike. DAUSA provides immediate relief to those victims when disasters strike, and focuses on rebuilding communities by assessing their needs. Securing and delivering the aid by its Disaster Aid Response Teams (DARTs), while working with the people suffering from the effects caused by the disaster. DAUSA is not a First Responder. Its role is “Mucking and Gutting”, tarping roofs, chain-sawing, debris removal, helping prep meals, and cooking (as examples) from their 15 equipped domestic trailers. DAUSA also has a Response Boat that works with local first responders to rescue survivors from flooded areas.
