Southern USA – Hurricane Michael

Right after Hurricane Florence, we are facing another major national disaster caused by Hurricane Michael as shown below. Your help and donation is needed to alleviate the suffering of our fellow human beings. Our district has helped the victims of national and international disasters in the past and we ask that you consider making tax-free donations to our preferred provider Disaster Aid USA (a non-profit and 501-c-3 organization). Please designate your donation to a specific disaster. DAUSA is working with affected Rotary Clubs in the disaster areas to bring relief to the victims.

Hurricane Michael hits FL, GA, SC, NC, and VA: A strong category 4 hurricane made landfall near Panama City, FL and obliterated many small coastal towns, including Mexico Beach. Latest report is: Over 30+ people have lost their lives, thousands of people are in shelters, about a million people lost power soon after landfall;. It will take weeks and months to recover from this devastation. DRCom and DAUSA conducted a series of strategy sessions in the last few days to send “smart aid” (combination of cleaning up homes and providing financial aids) to communities identified by local Rotary Clubs and non-profits such as “Operation Blessings”. District Governors and District Governor-Elects of several Rotary districts have already been contacted by DAUSA (especially in FL, GA, SC, NC, and VA).

Three DAUSA trailers (with disaster experts) are already deployed in Panama City (FL), New Bern (NC), and Martinsville (VA) to provide relief to hurricane victims and to coordinate volunteer work there. Financial help, emergency equipment, and cleaning equipment are in dire need at this time. Your generous donation will help this “smart aid” operation to provide relief to the flood victims. DRCom and DAUSA have a set a goal to raise $50,000 within a few weeks. Therefore, individual Rotarians and Rotary clubs are encouraged to donate generously.

Information on DAUSA contact and donations: For details on DAUSA deployment plan, please contact Bob Grill, President and Co-founder of DAUSA (bob.grill@disasteraidUSA.org Tel: 410-956-7344). Other details for making online tax-free donation of funds can be found on the two links below.
