Rotarians and non-Rotarians are aware of the recent disasters in the state of Hawaii. The volcanic eruption has displaced many families in the big island of Hawaii and heavy rain has caused flooding and mudslides in the small island of Kauai, displacing many families there. Rotary Past District Governor Ron Mabry from the island of Kauai urgently requested 20 Disaster Aid USA tents for the displaced families.
With funds provided by the Rotary Club of Kapaa Foundation on the island of Kauai, Disaster Aid USA responded immediately. The tents were readied by a team of Disaster Aid USA volunteers and picked up from the Disaster Aid USA headquarters in Lanham, MD by J. S. Connor (Domestic Shipper) and taken to BWI Airport. The tents were then flown by UPS. The air freight shipping is being provided thru the assistance of the UPS Foundation at no cost, first to Honolulu, Oahu and then on to Lihue, Kauai. The tents will provide temporary shelter for the victims in Kauai who have and continue suffering from the effects of the heavy rain, flooding and mudslides. The entire disaster plan and action was coordinated in a matter of one week to meet the emergency needs. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Kapaa Foundation and all the Rotarian volunteers.
Donations are needed to replenish Disaster Aid USA’s inventory of tents. The minimum order for the tents is 200; and the cost with shipping from China is $50,000. It is important for DAUSA to have an inventory of tents for emergency use.
Yes, it is true, you will probably never know the family your donation provided temporary shelter for during their time of need, but you can be sure there is a place in their heart with a big, big thank you.
